For women suffering from sexual dysfunction or urinary incontinence we offer The O-shot.
What is the O-Shot?
A safe, non-surgical procedure that uses growth factors in Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to improve sexual function and treat stress and urge urinary incontinence. The procedure uses the patient’s own PRP to stimulate increased blood flow, strengthen tissue, enhance sexual sensitivity, reduce dyspareunia (painful sex) and address urinary incontinence.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
PRP, obtained by a painless blood draw, is a concentrated source of platelets, growth factors and cytokines found naturally in your own body. It stimulates and controls healthy regenerative processes, including collagen and soft tissue remodeling. PRP has been used successfully for years in various surgical and non-surgical procedures to promote improved healing times and optimal results. For many years our practice has been using PRP for hair regeneration, enhanced facial treatments, and diVa™ vaginal rejuvenation.
How Does the O-Shot work / What should I expect at the time of Treatment?
Your Body produces collagen, an essential element for maintaining firmness and tightness in tissues throughout the body. Collagen production slowly begins to decrease in your 20’s and declines substantially by the time you reach menopause. The O-Shot uses PRP to harness your own body’s healing abilities to stimulate collagen production and cellular regeneration in tissues that have lost elasticity and sensation for any number of reasons.
The O-Shot procedure begins with a simple blood draw. Your blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the red blood cells. The PRP is then injected into an area near the clitoris and into the area of the upper vagina that is most important for sexual response (the “O-Spot”). These areas are topically numbed before the injection, causing you to experience little to no discomfort during the procedure.
Why Does it work for stress/urge urinary incontinence?
By rejuvenating aging or deteriorating vaginal muscle and tissue, patients’ bladder control improves, leading to significantly reduced or, in some cases, resolving urinary incontinence.
What benefits should I experience?
- Increased sexual desire, arousal and libido
- Tightening of the vaginal opening
- Stronger more frequent orgasms
- Increased vaginal lubrication
- Decreased or resolved stress/urge urinary incontinence
- Decreased pain for those with dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
How quickly does it work and how long does it last?
In many cases women will notice an immediate increase in sexual function, desire and overall pleasure. However, results for both sexual function and urinary incontinence typically peak within three to six months and last an average of 12 to 18 months. Some patients may need a second treatment within 6 to 12 months after their initial treatment.
Is there any downtime?
You can return to normal daily and sexual activity the same day.
Do you offer any other services to help with these sexual health issues?
YES! We can enhance your O-Shot results by combining the service with diVa vaginal rejuvenation, which improves health of the vaginal canal.
How are the staff qualified to perform the O-Shot?
Dr. Norma Basinger Smith is a Board Certified Gynecologist practicing in the River Valley since 1998. She has undergone specialized training for the technique of the O-Shot procedure.
