Ambulatory Phlebectomy

If you suffer from varicose veins that are close to the surface of your skin, an ambulatory phlebectomy may be an ideal treatment. Also called stab phlebectomy, ambulatory phlebectomy in Fort Smith involves the surgical removal of varicose veins through tiny incisions in the skin that do not require stitches. This procedure is often used in conjunction with endovenous laser ablation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during an ambulatory phlebectomy?

After applying local anesthesia, Dr. Norma Basinger Smith will use ultrasound to map the affected vein, creating tiny incisions in the skin overlying the varicose veins. Dr. Norma Basinger Smith will then remove the vein with a phlebectomy hook.

Is there any pain?

Most patients report minimal discomfort during an ambulatory phlebectomy, which requires only local anesthesia. Dr. Norma Basinger Smith and her staff will take all the necessary steps to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible.

Is there any downtime with an ambulatory phlebectomy in Fort Smith?

You should be able to walk immediately following your procedure and resume normal activities several days after treatment. For two weeks after surgery, you should expect to wear a gradient compression garment to optimize your results. Four weeks post treatment, follow-up ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy is usually required.

What results can I expect?
