Varicose Veins

Varicose veins, often swollen and blue, are inherently diseased veins that have become enlarged as a result of an abnormal collection of blood. As the pressure builds from this pooling of blood, the veins eventually bulge to the skin’s surface, creating unsightly and often painful varicose veins. If left untreated, varicose veins can cause blood clots, leg ulcers, inflammation of the skin, hyperpigmentation of skin, chronic dermatitis of the skin, or a rupture of the varicose vein.

Signs of Varicose Veins:

  • Visible, enlarged veins
  • Swelling of ankles and legs
  • Brown discoloration of the skin at the ankles
  • Skin ulcers on the leg or ankle

While the number one cause of varicose veins is heredity, a variety of factors can increase a person’s chances of developing varicose veins. These may include hormonal changes, pregnancy, aging, obesity, leg injury, excessive standing, or sitting.

Varicose veins can make it difficult to participate in your favorite activities by causing a host of unpleasant symptoms, including:

  • Aching pain
  • Burning
  • Swelling
  • Nocturnal Cramps
  • Restless leg symptoms
  • Fullness
  • Fatigue

Because each case of varicose veins is unique, Arkansas Vein Clinic and Skin Care will provide an in-depth evaluation before choosing an effective treatment plan based on your individual needs.

Vein treatments in Northwest Arkansas at Arkansas Vein Clinic and Skin Care include:

  • Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
  • Endovenous Chemical Ablation (Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy)
  • Ambulatory Phlebectomy
